short version: everything relevare captures stays on your computer. we never upload your screen data, never sell your information, and you can delete everything at any time.

what we capture

while relevare is running, it records the following from your computer:

relevare does not capture:

where your data lives

everything relevare captures is stored in a local database on your computer at ~/.relevare/db.sqlite. this file never leaves your machine unless you explicitly turn on cloud sync (which is off by default).

relevare does not have servers that store your screen data. there is no cloud backup of your recordings. if you uninstall the app and delete that folder, your data is gone.

how long we keep your data

raw captured data is automatically deleted on a tiered schedule that runs every hour in the background. each type of data has a different shelf life:

workflow analysis results (the insights relevare generates from your data) are kept indefinitely so you can track patterns over time. these contain only summaries — not your raw screen content.

you can change the retention period — or turn it off entirely — in app settings.

how we analyze your data

relevare uses an AI model to find patterns in your workflow — where you lose time, which tasks are repetitive, and what could be automated. here is exactly what gets sent to the AI and what stays local:

what's sent to the AI

what never leaves your computer

which AI provider is used (depends on your tier)

regardless of which tier you're on, the same privacy filtering applies. personal apps are always excluded before any data is sent.

third-party services we use

here is the complete list of services that may process your data and the conditions under which they do:

none of these services ever receive your raw screen text, screenshots, OCR output, or audio. relevare does not use product analytics or error reporting services of any kind — no PostHog, no Sentry, no behavioral telemetry endpoint.

your rights

access your data

all captured data lives in ~/.relevare/ on your computer. you have full access to it at any time. for team-tier customers, you can also download a copy of any data we hold for you in encrypted form by emailing privacy@relevare.tech.

delete your data

you can delete data for any time period in app settings, or delete everything by removing the ~/.relevare/ folder. the app also exposes a DELETE /data/time-range API endpoint for programmatic deletion. for team-tier customers, deletion of synced data is included in your account-level controls; you can also request full deletion by emailing privacy@relevare.tech and we will action it within 30 days.

opt out

quit the app and it stops capturing. you can also pause recording from the menu bar icon at any time.

export your data

the local SQLite database is a standard file format. you can open it with any SQLite reader to inspect or export your data. (you will need the key file at ~/.relevare/.db-key, which is generated automatically on first launch.)

under GDPR

if you are in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR: the right to rectification, the right to restriction of processing, the right to object, and the right to data portability. to exercise any of these, email privacy@relevare.tech. we will respond within 30 days. you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

under CCPA

if you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to opt out of sale (we do not sell personal information), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. you can exercise these by emailing privacy@relevare.tech. we will verify your request and respond within 45 days.

international data transfers

if you are outside the United States, your data may be processed in the US (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, Supabase) depending on the services involved. for transfers from the EU/EEA/UK to the US, we rely on the relevant provider's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission.

data breach notification

because captured data lives on your computer, a typical "data breach" of relevare's infrastructure would not expose your screen content. if we became aware of a breach affecting your account information or, for team-tier customers, any synced data, we would notify affected customers within 72 hours of discovery, consistent with GDPR Article 33.

personal activity filtering

relevare automatically identifies personal apps and excludes them from analysis. this is not a static blocklist — the AI reasons about your role. instagram counts as a work app for a social media manager. it counts as personal for an accountant. the judgment is made per user, per role.

when in doubt, relevare defaults to treating an app as work — it's safer to miss a personal app than to accidentally exclude legitimate work data.

data we collect about your use of the app

relevare does not collect product analytics, behavioral events, or error reports. we do not run PostHog, Sentry, Mixpanel, or any equivalent telemetry. button clicks, onboarding progress, feature usage, and crash reports all stay on your computer.

this means we learn less about how relevare is used in the wild than other apps. we accept that tradeoff because the kind of data relevare has access to is too sensitive to risk leaking through telemetry.

org deployments

if your employer has deployed relevare across your team, they may have access to an aggregated dashboard showing workflow patterns across the organization. this dashboard shows patterns only — it never shows individual attribution. your manager cannot see which specific screen recordings or insights came from you.

you can see exactly what your employer sees. this is a core product guarantee, not a setting that can be changed.

children's privacy

relevare is a workplace productivity tool intended for adults. we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

changes to this policy

if we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top and notify users through the app. continuing to use relevare after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
